A team of Devon based Digital marketers are casting aside their laptops and taking up the fundraising baton as they join Cancer Research UK’s Relay For Life.
Cancer Research UK (CRUK) is a nationwide charity whose aim is to bring forward the day that cancer is cured. In total, a worrying one in two people will develop cancer at some point in their lives. There are over 200 different types of cancer and thanks to research, cancer survival has doubled over the last 40 years.
Cancer Research UK is one of two charities that Optimus support through their annual corporate fundraising programme. This year Optimus will support Relay For Life by entering their own team, ‘Optimus Fighters for Life’ to take part in the 24hr event and raise valuable funds to support Cancer Research UK.
The Relay For Life event is organised by a local team of volunteers on behalf of Cancer Research UK. The event itself provides an opportunity for survivors to celebrate, for carers to be recognised, for those lost to be remembered and ultimately, celebrate life in an effort to raise as much money as possible because united we are stronger than cancer. The event itself will take place on July 30th starting at 1pm and finishing 24 hours later.
This Relay For Life is part of a string of fundraising activities that Optimus have taken part in so far this year. Other events include; hosting their own ‘Big Breakfast’, as well as supporting World Cancer Day on February 4th. As a result of this, the team are already well on their way to smash the goal of £1,000.
Mark Russell, Chief Executive Officer at Optimus, said: “Cancer has touched the lives of many of us here at Optimus and with shocking statistics of 1 in 2 being diagnosed in their lifetime, cancer research is more vital than ever. We believe that taking part in Relay For Life is a positive way to be part of our local community and make a real difference. We would love for other local businesses to follow our lead because with more people we really can do something extraordinary – save lives.”
Jason Brockman, volunteer Chair of Cancer Research UK’s Relay For Life, said: “We would love to hear from anyone who wants to find out more about Relay For Life and how they can get involved. This is a unique event and every single person in Devon can play a part. Every step Cancer Research UK makes towards beating cancer relies on every pound, every hour and every person.”
