Four members of the Optimus PM account management team enjoyed a day of practical talks and insightful panels at the annual Affiliate Huddle in London last month. Andy, Ellie, Vera and Bruce were all in attendance at the conference at the Congress Centre.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, key themes in a lot of the talks on the day included GDPR, attribution and utilising data; but the overarching message from the whole event was that this is an incredibly exciting time for the industry.
The day started with an excellent talk by Tim Elkington, Dan Bunya, Helen Southgate and Kevin Edwards, who present the results of the IAB/ PwC Affiliate Marketing 2017 Study. Insight and data gained by consultation with affiliate networks, affiliates, software providers and leading in-house affiliate programmes provided some extremely positive results.
- Affiliate marketing spend grew 15.1% from £482 million to £554 million in 2017
- In 2017, Affiliate Marketing generated £8.9 billion sales, up 9.2% year-on-year
- Affiliate spend on smartphone grew 49% year-on-year
- Retail holds the largest share of affiliate revenue, at 43%
Our team brought back lots of interesting discussion points and food for thought to share with the wider team; and the day gave us many things to consider across our global account portfolio.
